Symphonic magic: musicAeterna concert with Teodor Currentzis on March 17 at the Great Hall of the Philharmonic!
The musicAeterna Symphony Orchestra conducted by Teodor Currentzis invites classical music lovers to an unforgettable event that will take place on March 17 in the Great Hall of the Shostakovich Philharmonic. That evening, Gustav Mahler's Second Symphony, known as "Resurrection", will be performed. This work, written for soprano, alto, mixed choir and orchestra, is one of the most significant in the repertoire of the orchestra and conductor.
The "Resurrection" symphony consists of five parts, each of which has a deep philosophical and religious subtext. Mahler called the first part "Feast", in it the composer asks questions about the meaning of life and suffering. The middle parts of the symphony serve as an interlude, representing memories of bright days and a picture of the meaningless seething of life. In the fourth movement, "Primeval Light", the word expressing the thirst for deliverance from the hardships of life is heard for the first time.
The finale of the symphony lasts more than half an hour and unites all the themes of the cycle into a grand canvas, completed by the choir and soloists. Mahler found the text for the final choir in the poems of Friedrich Klopstock, adding his own lines to them. It is from these words that the symphony received its name "Resurrection".
