Currentzis is the founder and artistic director of the Utopia Orchestra and Choir, as well as the artistic director of the musicAeterna Orchestra and Choir, with which the conductor has traveled all over the world. Together with his ensembles, he regularly tours Europe and the world, performing at numerous venues, where he plays works by Mahler, Bruckner, Chopin and other outstanding composers.
Currentzis is famous, among other things, for his commitment to extremely fast tempos; he was one of the first in Russia to preach historical performance – recreating the sound of music from past years, using authentic instruments, specific playing and singing techniques. For the Greek conductor, notes have always been and remain part of a code that needs to be deciphered. Currentzis is able to perform even the most famous material in a new way, without being afraid to interpret the classics.
May 11 Currentzis and his musical group will come to Tashkent to perform the Fifth Symphony by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and the Four Last Songs by Richard Strauss at the Uzbekistan International Forum Palace.
On May 13 and 15, a performance will take place at the State Academic Capella of St. Petersburg. The program also includes Pyotr Ilyich's Symphony No. 5, dedicated to Theodore Avé-Lallemant, and the Four Last Songs for soprano and symphony orchestra, which were collected into a single whole after the death of the great Strauss.
On May 17 and 18, the conductor will take to the stage of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow with the same program.
On May 13 and 14, fans of Currentzis's work will be able to see the maestro at the House of Music (Shpagin Plant) in Perm. This year the event is dedicated to the 340th anniversary of the birth of George Frideric Handel, so the program will include his works. And since Currentzis always insists on historical performance, the music will be performed on historical instruments, which allows you to get as close as possible to the authentic sound of the Baroque era. The action with theatrical elements will create a world of illusions and a sense of wonder, so characteristic of Handel's works.
Another concert in Perm will be held on June 22. The director of "Esperia" is Anna Guseva, the program of the grand show will include the choir "musicAeterna", soloists of the orchestra "musicAeterna", the dance troupe "musicAeterna Dance", and, of course, the inimitable Currentzis himself.
