The musicAeterna orchestra will give a concert under the direction of Teodor Currentzis
This evening, listeners will be able to enjoy the sounds of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony, as well as Richard Strauss's Last Four Songs. Tchaikovsky began work on his Fifth Symphony ten years after the premiere of the Fourth. During this time, the composer continued to create orchestral works and was actively involved in conducting his own compositions. In early 1888, he went on his first European tour with a conducting team. It was then that he met Theodore Avé-Lallemant, chairman of the Hamburg Philharmonic Society. Their conversation had a significant impact on Tchaikovsky: Avé-Lallemant criticized the composer's music, calling it overly pompous, and suggested that he move to Germany to reveal his creative potential. This meeting inspired Tchaikovsky to dedicate his new symphony to Ave-Lallemant.
Tchaikovsky realized that the public expected an outstanding work from him after a ten-year break from creating symphonies.
