Teodor Currentzis is not just a conductor, but a real director of a musical event. Each of his concerts turns into a bright performance, where the main roles are played by emotions, a sincere passion for music and daring creative searches.
Although Currentzis was born in Greece, the last three decades of his life and work have been inextricably linked with our country. Music fascinated him as a child: he studied violin and piano, and received higher education in his homeland. However, in the mid-1990s, he moved to Russia to become a conductor. At the St. Petersburg Conservatory, his mentor was the legendary Ilya Musin, who trained a galaxy of outstanding musicians.
Already in 2004, Currentzis headed the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater, where he created the orchestra and choir musicAeterna. And in 2011, he became the artistic director of the Perm Theater, making a real cultural revolution: in the eight years of his work, the city turned into one of the musical capitals of Russia on par with Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Now Teodor Currentzis is constantly expanding his creative horizons: he is a co-founder of the Territory contemporary art festival, artistic director of the Diaghilev Festival, and in 2022 he created the Utopia Orchestra - an international group of 28 musicians from all over the world.
He actively tours Russia, records new programs and takes on the most complex works, demonstrating courage and innovation. His main project, musicAeterna, invariably conquers the public - and not only in Russia.
