The philosophical idea of ​​the work is associated with the infantile world of a child and the idea of ​​death as the beginning of eternal life, evil and good are abstract here, harmony is the highest meaning, but a child is not given to achieve it a priori. The composer himself defined the emotional structure of the symphony as "the cloudlessness of another, more sublime, alien world", which not only surrounds a small person, but also frightens him with its understanding of powerlessness.

Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony is dedicated to the theme of Man and Destiny; throughout the entire musical canvas, the dark theme of the confrontation between man and fate runs through, and this image runs through all the parts. The menacing power of fate seems irresistible, unshakable, so frightening. Richard Strauss's Four Last Songs contain a premonition and expectation of inevitable death, and were collected by a friend of the composer after his death. In the songs, the expectation of death is calm, imbued with the consciousness of the path traveled and the fatigue of life. The other three songs are based on poems by the great German poet Hermann Hesse and are quiet reflections or memories of the carefree, happy youth that Strauss observed around him.
