Description
Theodore Currentzis is a name that commands admiration and respect in the world of classical music. A Greek and Russian conductor, musician, actor and poet, he is known for his unique approach to interpreting classical works. Born in Athens and beginning his musical education at an early age, Currentzis continued his studies in St. Petersburg with the legendary Ilya Musin, which marked the beginning of his illustrious career.
From 2004 to 2010, Theodore was the Principal Conductor of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, where he founded the orchestra and choir musicAeterna, which became a symbol of musical excellence. In 2011, he moved this ensemble to Perm, where he continued his mission to revive and rethink the classical repertoire. In 2019, Currentzis made musicAeterna an independent ensemble, placing it in St. Petersburg.
Since 2018, he has been the chief conductor of the Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra, adding fresh interpretations and innovative projects to its repertoire. Currentzis is also one of the founders of the international festival-school of contemporary art "Territory" and the artistic director of the Diaghilev Festival.
In 2022, he founded the Utopia Orchestra, which includes the best musicians from 28 countries. This project became a new stage in his career, demonstrating his desire for musical excellence and global cooperation.
