About event
The musicAeterna Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Teodor Currentzis, will present one of the most famous works by the Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection".
The essence of the Second Symphony "Resurrection" lies in the depth and richness of life that it conveys. Mahler's music reflects the multifaceted nature of the world. It does not have a single melodic line that would lead the listener along. Here you can hear the musical element, in which the sound of different instruments becomes especially expressive. Performing Mahler's Symphony No. 2 is considered quite difficult even for virtuoso musicians. Tickets for the concert of Teodor Currentzis and musicAeterna will introduce you to this creation of the Austrian composer and allow you to appreciate its scale and the virtuoso playing of the musicians.
The composer wrote the first part of the symphony in 1888. According to the author's idea, it begins with a funeral. Mahler conceived the middle parts of the work as intermediate stages between the introduction and the grandiose conclusion. The second part of the symphony is a refined dance, the Ländler, reflecting the bright moments of the main character's life. The third part depicts the chaos and disorder of life.
The fourth part features vocals for the first time. The song "Primeval Light", based on the text from the collection "The Boy's Wonderful Horn" by Arnim and Brentano, becomes an important stop for the hero, who is trying to get rid of the hardships of life.
The final part of the symphony lasts more than thirty minutes and is divided into two large sections: at the beginning, the orchestral part unites in a bright sound all the key themes of the work that were presented earlier, and then the choir and two solo voices join in.
