The orchestra and choir musicAeterna under the direction of Teodor Currentzis will present Anton Bruckner's Ninth Symphony to the public

Bruckner's Ninth Symphony is the pinnacle of the great composer's work, his philosophical reflection on farewell to earthly life, which remained unfinished. This symphony, like the works of Gustav Mahler, has long occupied a special place in Currentzis's repertoire, starting with his work at the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater. It was there that it was first performed before an audience, and since then musicAeterna has been invariably performed.

The main idea of the Ninth Symphony is a dramatic struggle between fate and man, ending sadly for the latter. Bruckner created this spiritual work during a period of serious illness, working on it for three years. He managed to write three parts, but was unable to complete the fourth part, as death overtook him earlier. The finale was conceived as a grandiose fugue with a chorale, which, however, the composer did not have time to implement. The symphony was first performed on 1 February 1903 in Vienna under the direction of Ferdinand Loewe, a great admirer of Bruckner, who carefully restored the work.

Teodor Currentzis and musicAeterna have performed the Ninth Symphony on numerous stages around the world. This summer, the ensemble will once again travel to Milan to perform works by Bruckner and Mahler.

To attend a concert by musicAeterna and Teodor Currentzis is to touch eternity through one of the most profound and majestic musical creations.
