Orchestra "MusicAeterna" and Teodor Currentzis will perform at the Philharmonic named after D.D. Shostakovich
You will hear Anton Rubinstein's Piano Concerto No. 4 with Andrey Baranenko as a soloist. MusicAeterna will also perform Ravel's Daphnis and Chloe suite and the poem Waltz. The program will be completed by Ottorino Respighi's symphonic poem Pines of Rome, which will take listeners to the Eternal City, surrounded by old pine trees under a blue endless sky.
Musician Andrey Baranenko actively performs both in Russia and abroad as a soloist and participant in various ensembles and orchestras. Since 2023, Andrey has been a soloist with the MusicAeterna orchestra conducted by Teodor Currentzis, and now listeners can appreciate the pianist’s virtuoso skills during his performances.
“Pines of Rome” is one of the finest works by the Italian composer Ottorino Respighi. This piece has the most vibrant sound, the most beautiful melodies and a very vivid sense of location. The tone poem in four movements for orchestra, completed in 1924 by the Italian composer, demands great skill from the orchestra. Outside the Villa Borghese, Currentzis lets his children frolic merrily – as the movement rapidly picks up the tempo, the orchestra sounds as if it is about to get out of control... but it is almost contained. And in the following “Pines near the Catacombs”, the Greek conductor creates the necessary sense of space, duly following the composer’s instructions to place the trumpet soloist “as far away as possible”. Currentzis's march along the Appian Way is also distinguished by its sense of distance. When the Roman soldiers first appear in the field of view, they seem like ominous silhouettes on the horizon, and the clatter of their feet is barely audible. Only when they approach and the sun reflects off their armor does the conductor unleash the full power of his enormous orchestra. Some conductors reach their peak too early or progress in fits and starts: Currentzis brings the march to perfection.
Tickets for the concert of the MusicAeterna orchestra and conductor Currentzis in the Great Hall of the Shostakovich Philharmonic are an opportunity to touch the works of great composers, to experience vivid emotions from the music and the skill of the orchestra and conductor.
