MusicAeterna Opens Teodor Currentzis International Residence
Teodor Currentzis and musicAeterna will present a new project in Lucerne: the first international residence. MusicAeterna's first international residency will take place in Lucerne from 18 to 20 February? musicians, together with the audience, will explore the space of academic music and other areas of contemporary art.
The musicAeterna residency is more than a concert program. It is a creative "lab" that allows the public to join the musicians in their exploration. From baroque to contemporary pieces, will be accompanied by an educational program that includes everything you need to fully understand the repertoire: from master classes in baroque dance to podium discussions. KKL Lucerne is musicAeterna's partner in this project.
On February 18, open master classes will be held by musicAeterna concertmaster Afanasy Chupin and cellist Alexei Zhilin, two musicians will share their professional experience and introduce musicAeterna's creative methods and philosophy.
On the same day, the orchestra will perform Mozart's Grand Mass in C minor - one of the most grandiose works in its genre, masterfully combining the archaic solemnity of the sacred mass with the lively, eloquent beauty of Italian opera.
On February 19, 2021, the residence will be dedicated to contemporary academic music. Commissioned by Teodor Currentzis and performed by the musicAeterna choir, Tristia, Hersant's choral opera based on poems written by prisoners, an experiment that combines social work and artistic practices, will be one of the program's highlights. A discussion about faith, freedom and light will take place after the concert in the format of a public discussion with the participation of the composer and performers. Following the discussion, Teodor Currentzis will meet with the audience to answer questions.
The residency will end on February 20, 2021 with one of the highlights of musicAeterna's repertoire: The Sound of Light., a collection of selected vocal and instrumental works by 18th-century French Baroque master Jean-Philippe Rameau.
