On March 14, the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky will host a grand concert by Teodor Currentzis and "musicAeterna"
In honor of the anniversary of "musicAeterna", the film "Teodor Currentzis. There Are No More Like Him" was shown on Channel One, which premiered in early February 2025. This film is a kind of gift not only to the charismatic Greek with Russian citizenship, but also to all admirers of his multifaceted talent. Director Andrei Duplyakin and his team spent several weeks accompanying Currentzis and his team on tour to delve deeper into their creative process. The filming also captured rehearsals, including soloists, which allowed us to convey a unique view of the life of the orchestra, choir and their leader.
Teodor Currentzis moved from Greece to Russia in 1994 to study with the legendary Ilya Musin. In interviews, he repeatedly shared that he was inspired by the Russian conducting school and wanted to get to Musin. Ilya Alexandrovich, a famous conductor and teacher, was an assistant to Fritz Stiedry, who in turn studied with Mahler. Musin believed that a conductor should be both a director and an artist, creating and implementing his own concept. This skill, passed on to Currentzis by his teacher, is noticeable in his performances: he learned to hear the music and bring something personal and unique to it.
These aspects became key in the new documentary about Currentzis, where the conductor sincerely shares his understanding of freedom, dreams, time, country, illusions, mistakes, love and beauty.
