On March 17, Teodor Currentzis and the "musicAeterna" ensemble will delight the audience at the D.D. Shostakovich St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonic
In early February, fans of the famous conductor, who now has Russian citizenship, received another gift - a documentary by Andrey Duplyakin, "Teodor Currentzis: There Are No More Like Him." Currentzis, a student of the great Soviet conductor Ilya Musin, to whom he passed on his knowledge of conducting as an art of directing and painting, demonstrates his unique approach to music in the film. He not only performs complex pieces, but also passes them through himself, remaining true to the original. The film reveals the behind-the-scenes work of the orchestra and choir, showing not only their triumphs on stage, but also intense rehearsals. Each performance of "musicAeterna" under the direction of Currentzis is the result of dozens of hours of painstaking work, honing the skills of the conductor and musicians.
In the film, Currentzis shares his memories of the beginning of his creative path, which was full of difficulties. He was Musin's last student, whom the professor considered the most gifted, but Currentzis' talent was accompanied by crises and searches for inspiration. One of these moments was not being admitted to the second round of the Prokofiev Competition, after which Musin left the jury in protest and expressed his support for the student on television. This became an important incentive for Currentzis to continue his work. In the film, he openly talks about his misconceptions and dreams, emphasizing that true freedom for him exists only in music. A true romantic and idealist, Currentzis appears in the film as a hero of our time, evoking admiration and respect.
Buying a ticket to the concert of Teodor Currentzis and "musicAeterna" at the Shostakovich St. Petersburg Philharmonic means discovering Mahler's performance as interpreted by some of the most talented musicians of our time.
