On March 12, Teodor Currentzis and his orchestra and choir "musicAeterna" will visit the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre
For Currentzis, the Perm Theatre is a special place. From 2011 to 2019, he held the position of artistic director here, after leaving the post of musical director and chief conductor at the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, where the orchestra and choir "musicAeterna" was founded. Working in Perm became the heyday of his team: a choir was created, and then a dance group, which allowed Currentzis to bring to life the most ambitious musical ideas. Just a year after his appointment in Perm, he also headed the Diaghilev Festival, which rethinks the legacy of the great philanthropist and opens the way for modern productions.
It was during his work at the Perm Opera that Currentzis began to perform symphonies by Mahler and Bruckner, which captivated him with their depth and grandeur. Although Currentzis left Perm before the main stage was restored, he continued to perform the sacred symphonies of these composers with his orchestra and choir. They toured many cities, organizing Bruckner Nights in such capitals as Milan and Paris. Currentzis’s art is recognized everywhere, and each performance by “musicAeterna” becomes a significant cultural event.
Teodor Currentzis and “musicAeterna” concert tickets are a chance to enjoy one of Gustav Mahler’s greatest works, the pinnacle of his creativity. The themes touched upon in his music, such as the fear of death, the search for God and the acceptance of His influence on human destiny, remain relevant to this day.
