Immerse yourself in the Baroque era: musicAeterna's concert featuring Rameau at the Great Hall of the Philharmonic

On September 19, the Great Hall of the Shostakovich Philharmonic will host the concert program "Jean-Philippe Rameau. Sound of Light - 2," dedicated to the music of the outstanding 18th-century French composer Jean-Philippe Rameau. The musicAeterna orchestra and choir, under the direction of conductor Teodor Currentzis, will once again present a captivating anthology, continuing to explore the creative legacy of Rameau.

The concert program is constructed in a pasticcio format, combining vocal and orchestral pieces from various musical and theatrical works. The program includes excerpts from five of Rameau's operas: Castor and Pollux, Les Indes Galantes, Platée, Les Fêtes de Hebe, and Zaïs. These works represent a patchwork yet dramatically coherent canvas that encompasses the genres of lyric tragedy, opera-ballet, heroic pastoral, and musical comedy.

The performance of the program will be accompanied by the playing of historical instruments in Baroque tuning, including the theorbo, Baroque guitar, archlute, Cretan lyre, hurdy-gurdy, and musettes. These rare instruments help to convey the atmosphere of the era with maximum precision.

The production will feature not only the musicAeterna orchestra and choir, but also the musicAeterna Dance troupe. Soloists from the Anton Rubinstein Academy and guest singers will also perform on stage. Director Elizaveta Moroz and choreographer Anastasia Peshkova contributed to the creation of this impressive project.
