Mozart and Beethoven in a New Light: A MusicAeterna Concert with Teodor Currentzis

This October evening with MusicAeterna brings together compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven. Teodor Currentzis will conduct, with Eva Gevorgyan performing the piano parts. The program includes Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23—works where celebratory energy sits alongside introspection and delicate lyricism.

Beethoven’s symphony, completed in 1812, is distinguished by its expressive rhythmic patterns. Its famous Allegretto creates a strikingly different emotional atmosphere: the music unfolds with restraint and focus, gradually heightening a sense of inner tension. In Mozart’s work, the contrast is particularly evident in the 23rd Concerto: the Siciliana movement immerses the listener in a melancholic mood, while the finale is filled with movement and radiant energy.

The musicians of MusicAeterna have frequently performed the works on this program. The ensemble has played Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 in Russia and at the Salzburg Festival, and a recording of the piece was released by Sony Classical. This time, the works will be presented with an approach rooted in historically informed performance practice.

The orchestra uses period instruments and a pitch of A=430 Hz, aiming to highlight the distinctive sound of music from that era.Eva Gevorgyan, who will perform the piano part in the Mozart concerto, is a prize-winner and victor of over 40 international competitions. The pianist performs with renowned orchestras and conductors as she builds her international career. She is currently studying at both the Moscow State Conservatory and the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid.
