The Silent Ring and Brodsky: The St. Petersburg Philharmonic is preparing a musical sensation
The musicAeterna orchestra, conducted by Teodor Currentzis, will perform at the Great Hall of the Shostakovich Philharmonic. This concert promises to change the perception of the German composer's music, shattering stereotypes about its heaviness and gloom.
The highlight of the evening will be the performance of the 70-minute symphonic suite "Ring Without Words." This work was created in 1987 by conductor and composer Lorin Maazel and represents the quintessence of Richard Wagner's entire operatic tetralogy "Der Ring des Nibelungen." Maazel masterfully preserved the sequence of events in the epic saga, placing an emphasis on orchestral elements.
The uniqueness of this suite lies in the original interpretation of the vocal parts: instead of eliminating them, they were arranged for various instruments. For example, the flute will perform the part of Sieglinde, the trombone will play Siegfried, and the bass clarinet will convey the image of the giant Fafner. This approach allows listeners to focus on Wagner's musical dramaturgy, without being distracted by the text and plot lines. It is worth noting that Wagner himself often created concert versions from fragments of his operas.
The program will be supplemented by a work by the Russian-German composer Katya Chamberedzhi - the oratorio "Nur zu weinen und zu singen..." ("Only to cry and sing..."), based on the poems of Joseph Brodsky. This work will be a modern musical dialogue with Wagner's grandiose work. Tickets for the concert of Teodor Currentzis and musicAeterna entitled "Chamberedzhi, Wagner" are available for purchase on our website.
