The main brainchild of the Greek conductor was founded when he was still the artistic director of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater. After that, great fame will come, there will be tours both in Russia, whose citizenship is an example of the maestro, and abroad. Since 2012, Currentzis has been the permanent director of the prestigious International Diaghilev Festival, which is held annually in Perm.
In honor of the anniversary, from March 8 to 20, the musicians performed in Novosibirsk, Perm, St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk and, of course, at the conservatory of the capital of Russia. The program of the series of anniversary concerts includes the Second Symphony by Gustav Mahler and the Ninth Symphony by Anton Bruckner, which are the calling cards of the orchestra and choir "musicAeterna". Throughout their career, the symphonies of these two greatest composers have been in the repertoire of Currentzis and his talented team of musicians.
On March 26 and 27, the choir and orchestra, led by their founder and inspirer, will come to sunny Madrid. This is not the first time Bruckner and Mahler will be heard within the walls of the "Auditorio Nacional de Música".
Currentzis in Russia Currentzis was one of the first to introduce the principles of historically informed performance. This direction aims to recreate the sound of the music of the past as accurately as possible by playing exactly the instruments for which it was written, in accordance with the aesthetics and rules of the game adopted in a particular era. These can be either original instruments of that era or modern reconstruction instruments created according to the original model based on ancient drawings and descriptions in treatises. Performing music of the past on instruments of the corresponding era is the calling card of his orchestra, which makes “musicAeterna” a real phenomenon in the Russian musical space. Also, Currentzis always attaches the utmost importance to the interpretation of the original musical text. It is understood not so much as “sounding notes”, but as a live “recomposition” of music. This care for the original sources appeals not only to the domestic public – Currentzis is widely known abroad, he has performed on leading world stages in front of full halls more than once.
In Russia, the conductor’s next concert will take place in Moscow, in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall on April 20. The program once again includes the "Resurrection Symphony" by the magnificent monumental Mahler.
