Teodor Currentzis and his band “musicAeterna” are preparing to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their creative activity on a truly grand scale.
The program of these concerts includes symphonies by Mahler and Bruckner, which, with their spiritual and monumental power, have been iconic works for Currentzis and his orchestra for over twenty years.
Since February of this year, viewers have had the opportunity to see the documentary film "Teodor Currentzis: There Are No More Like Him", filmed by Andrei Duplyakin. The title reflects the maestro's unique role in contemporary Russian culture. Fascinated by the mastery of the Russian conducting school, Currentzis came to Russia to study with Ilya Musin, becoming his last and, according to Musin himself, most gifted student. In 2014, having already created the orchestra "musicAeterna" and worked at the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater, as well as heading the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater, the conductor accepted Russian citizenship, firmly linking his fate with Russia.
Currentzis, for whom music is the basis of life, constantly strives for perfection, reflects on freedom of choice and faces illusions that are inevitable even for the most talented people. The film crew accompanied him and "musicAeterna" on their trips, at multi-hour rehearsals and concerts that gather full halls. Tickets for performances at Lakhta Hall are best purchased in advance, using convenient methods, including online purchases.
In addition to the new film, a number of other works have been made about Currentzis. Among them are “Plan B. Film by Teodor Currentzis and Sergey Nurmamed” (2020), dedicated to the impact of the pandemic on the music industry, and the earlier project “TheatreHD: Currentzis: Requiem. Mozart” (2017), in which the conductor, together with “musicAeterna”, performs Mozart’s famous Requiem, which has become as significant a part of his repertoire as the symphonies of Mahler and Bruckner.
