The orchestra "musicAeterna" under the direction of Teodor Currentzis will perform at the St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonic named after D.D. Shostakovich

The musicAeterna Symphony Orchestra and Choir will present Gustav Mahler's Second Symphony, known as "Resurrection". This is a work that requires the participation of a choir and soloists, as well as considerable musical skill, as it is highly complex to perform. Mahler conceived this symphony as a mournful and monumental work in which the hero dies, is resurrected and goes in search of God, asking questions about human existence and going through suffering and insights. The main character of this symphony is a philosopher who strives to reach God through self-knowledge and the feeling of being a part of nature. The first part tells of his death, and the subsequent parts were written by Mahler later, inspired by the death of his friend and idol Hans von Bülow. At Bülow's funeral, Mahler heard the lines that inspired him to create the finale of the symphony: "You will rise again, yes, you will rise again after a short sleep." Later he added his spiritual verses to them: "Believe, my heart, oh believe: Nothing is lost for you!", which gave the name "Resurrection". The second part of the symphony is a bright memory of the hero's happy days, of the "sunbeam" that once illuminated his life and his carefree smile.

Kurentzis repeatedly turned to the work of Mahler, but it was the symphony "Resurrection" that became a landmark work for his collective. Tickets for the concert of the orchestra "musicAeterna" in the Philharmonic of St. Petersburg are a unique opportunity to enjoy one of the most magnificent and grandiose works in the history of music.
