About event

A concert dedicated to Gustav Mahler's Second Symphony will be held in the Great Hall of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory under the direction of Teodor Currentzis and his orchestra "musicAeterna". This conductor has repeatedly turned to the composer's works, bringing a unique interpretation to each performance. Since 2012, Currentzis has headed the International Diaghilev Festival, which has been successfully held in Perm since 2003. It was at this festival that the "Resurrection Symphony" was first performed, and since then it has often been performed at the best venues in Russia. Throughout the orchestra's history, Teodor Currentzis has returned to Mahler's symphonies with enviable frequency, which invariably attracts the attention of sophisticated audiences.

Tickets for the concert of Teodor Currentzis and the orchestra "musicAeterna" will give you the opportunity to get to know Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 better.

While working on the symphony, Mahler received news of the death of Hans von Bülow, who was his idol. This German pianist, conductor, composer and music writer inspired Mahler with his innovation. The loss was a heavy blow for Mahler. At the funeral ceremony, a chorale based on Klopstock's verses was performed, which became the basis for the finale of Mahler's monumental symphony. This work tells of the search for God, human faith and the resurrection of the soul. It was Klopstock's poems that served as the title of Mahler's second symphony, the "Resurrection Symphony".

We are in for a fascinating journey through the world of music, where each part of the program will reveal new facets of the author's idea. The symphony begins with a powerful and mournful introduction, symbolizing farewell to the old life, and ends with a magnificent finale, in which questions about the meaning of existence are raised to a new level. Mahler skillfully takes us through the depths of his work, filling our hearts with musical images and impressions that we are about to experience.
