About event
Under the direction of Teodor Currentzis, the musicAeterna orchestra will perform a work that embodies the era of Austro-German romanticism, written by the composer Anton Bruckner.
Bruckner's Ninth Symphony, which will be performed this evening, remained unfinished, but this did not prevent it from becoming a true masterpiece and taking its place among the great musical works. Tickets for the concert of Teodor Currentzis and the musicAeterna orchestra will allow you to be convinced of the masterpiece of the work and the genius of the Austrian composer.
Bruckner combines grandiose sound landscapes, majestic chorales, fantastic visions, colossal pictures of the rise and fall of the human spirit in the symphony, which makes his work related to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. The language of the symphony develops Wagner's legacy, supports Schoenberg's expressionism. Bruckner uses a triple orchestra and touches on everything that was dear to him in the symphony, including motifs from the masses and the Te Deum, as well as fragments from Handel, Beethoven and Wagner.
The composer began work on the Ninth Symphony in 1887. However, he decided to put aside the initial sketches of the first movement after criticism from the conductor Hermann Levy. In 1889, drafts of the scherzo appeared. In 1891, the composer again concentrated on the Ninth Symphony, and by 1894 its three movements were completed. Studies of the extensive sketches for the finale show that Bruckner planned to create a grandiose work with a fugue and chorale. Understanding that he would not be able to complete this part due to illness, the composer expressed the wish that his Te Deum for choir, soloists and orchestra, written in 1881-1883, be performed instead of the finale.
