Dusapin was inspired to create the opera by the famous myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Lovers, separated by the will of the gods, find each other again in the kingdom of the dead. It seems that salvation is already close, but everything collapses at the last moment: Orpheus looked back and lost his love forever, and Eurydice no longer has a way to the world of the living.
The composer focused on the scene of the lovers' farewell. After all, it is in it that the entire kaleidoscope of feelings that they experience is concentrated: the pain of loss, timid hope, regret, shame and a feeling of complete loneliness that will haunt them until the end of time.
